Hi all,

Welcome to the inaugural The Secret World State of the Game update!

(Right, so that's a mouthful. In the future, I think I'll shorten it to TSWSotG, because that's a LOT easier to remember.)

We've had an exciting first week, and we're thrilled to see that everything has gone incredibly smooth so far. There have been some bugs and issues, of course, and we're fixing those as quickly as we can, but things are really stable and our players -- you guys! -- are very, very happy with the game. And that makes us very happy, too!

Now that players are progressing further and further into the game, uncovering all those things we've managed to keep secret for years and years, we're starting to see a lot of questions about what's next. What does the future hold for The Secret World, for our players and subscribers?

Well, I'm finally allowed to reveal a FEW of the things we're working on, and I'm really excited to be talking about what's ahead for The Secret World.

We're going to be releasing fresh and tasty new content to our subscribers on a regular, monthly basis. The first update is due on Tuesday, July 31st, and we will be releasing more details about that particular update later this week -- including a couple of fun surprises. (You're going to love it.)

So what will these updates contain? I'm glad you asked! I won't spoil too much, but here's an overview of some of the things we have in the pipelines:

* Mission packs on a monthly basis! The first few packs will contain new investigations for every adventure zone in the game -- but we also have more action and sabotage missions planned for the near future. These missions will feature fully voiced cut-scenes and new media pop-ups, and will match the quality of the missions currently in the game

* New weapons! We will be announcing our first auxiliary weapon soon (one clue: bigger, slower, more explosions) and new auxiliary weapons will be released on a regular basis. Combat in The Secret World will continue to evolve, and it will pay to expand your character in multiple directions!

* Raids! We're well into production on our first raid, and there will be more information about that in August! But as a teaser: The Big Apple will never be the same

* We've already announced our plans for expanding and improving character customisation: The Modern Prometheus and Ockham's Razor are opening in New York and London respectively in August, Execution later this year in Seoul. Pangaea in London will receive new stock, and we will add more accessories and clothing as rewards for both achievements and missions

* Chronicle has entered public beta, and we'll keep enhancing and growing that service according to player needs and wishes! Our intent is for Chronicle to become a living, breathing community in itself, and a place where players will go to measure and compare themselves against others, to check out the profiles of their co-players and rivals, and -- in the long run -- to become a living chronicle (zing!) of their player characters

* We have a player-versus-player dungeon in the early stages of planning -- in a brand new geographical area. More on this later this year!

* And speaking of dungeons, we're also working on a dungeon finder tool, allowing players to more easily put together a team to handle the instanced content

* Seasonal events won't go unnoticed in the secret world, and both Halloween and the Winter Solstice are important milestones for those who dabble (and dive deep into) the occult. Expect plenty of content to tie into both events -- including new missions, new characters, new monsters and some twists and turns that will keep players on their toes

* We're in production on two large, new and incredibly exciting adventure zones -- both of which will be announced in August. New geographical regions, new characters, new missions, new drops, new challenges, new monsters, new lore that will carry the story past its first act and into its thrilling and shocking second act!

* Improved cabal functionality is on the drawing board and will be seeing improvements later this year

* And we're not forgetting about our social players! We have some cool functionality tied to the Albion in London coming up very soon, allowing role-players and would-be thespians to spread their wings

* Pets will be updated and upgraded as we go along! More pets, better pets, and some cool surprises in store for pet owners!

* And last but certainly not least: Combat will receive constant polish and tweaks to make things look and feel better. Keep an eye out for more revisions to our effects and animations this autumn -- and the inclusion of auxiliary weapons will make combat even more exciting!

This isn't all. In fact, it's just the beginning, so stay tuned! The Secret World will keep growing, and there will always be a reason to go back to your favourite places, to dig deeper into the mysteries of Solomon Island, Egypt, Transylvania, New York, London and Seoul...and beyond.

So stick around, folks -- there's tons more to come, both this week and in the very near future. Thanks for reading, and have fun playing the game!

It will be interesting to see how much they can deliver on monthly basis, atleast the commitment is there and if they can take over the trion model.

That means it's a good start and how sub based games should be dealt with, we pay monthly so something should be there monthly. That older and newer mmo's are still selling us the old 'it's for maintenance' line is not something that sits well with a lot of people.

And it makes you wonder if this is the second company doing this, how much money didn't other mmo's make with release a content patch every 6 months in?

all has to be seen of how much quality it is but so far today we recieved another large bug fixing patch and our test server is down aswel now for the next one already.

Care to elaborate why you think the game was released too early as the final launch version was comparable to Rift in terms of stability in systems and mechanics.

Unless you refer to the content part of it and that being, the reality that the world is build around money and production cost without any revenue stream can only go on for so long. I've yet to see any mmo to be released that is complete in terms of what can be added.

Not getting a swtor Deja vu personally, as Bioware was and stil is in what i see fairly clueless what to do with their mmo and are just throwing stuff at it hoping something sticks and works. It's a mmo designed about repeting all the content and leveling new alts (legacy system proves that once more if the initial content design didn't) The PvP system while being supported by the "best fucking PvP team on the planet" aka the few that are left in Mythic decided to launch a PvP system with glaring issues and still leaving most gamers clueless as to what "Illum" is really suppose to be.

The only thing in TSW that should've been in from the start was the AH, but us testers discovered a fatal error right before the end regards to server down time and item retrieval from it right when purchasing something of it, so that was disabled for the launch client, rather then launching it and having a chance players could lose items when purchasing something right before a downtime.

What is the common factor in the early release of WH Online, SWTOR, and TSW?

If a major feature in MMOs isn't working prior to release - YOU DON'T RELEASE UNTIL IT IS WORKING.

Unrealistic demand if you know if you know when it popped up.

Unless you're off opinion that you can halt all stores globally once it's been shipped out. While stores can't even hold off selling before the game should actually be sold.

I get what you're saying but in it's context it is simply not realistic.

Also don't tell me what they have in common are EA as that is also false.
And really don't make me go and digg up actual factual financial reports what list their contract deal. That being EA investing and doing part of the marketing and 100% responsible for physical distribution. Funcom 100% responsible for the digital distribution.

To State the difference between being a subsection of EA and working with EA partners, claiming it's the same is the equivalent of saying Steam that is EA owned due to EA partners co-publishing and marketing the orange box, as it was the same deal there.

If there's something bad here with the game it's Funcoms responsibility.

"Fool me three or more times..."

As for early release - you don't announce a release date until the game is properly tested.

I have to agree with Doubter. It wasn't done at launch, even if the auction house was working.

Big reason I don't own it now.

They rushed it out to get a lead on GW2. The only reason there is a state of the game TLDR post THIS SOON is because they released it fucked up.

If they really cared about releasing an unfinished game, they could EASILY decide to give an extra month at launch and get ZERO flack over it.

The last game I saw launch in this condition was Tabula Rasa.

May i know this game standard of a mmo that has actually been released so i can compare this to and so i can put these things in some sort of context.
As this for me has been on the same level regards to rift concerning releases. What has widely been agreed on to be the best mmo launch out there.
This launch was far from rushed, if it was released on it initial date i would agree however now i can't.

Yes they planned the game before GW2 actual release date was know, knowing then thru a crystal ball they would gain a month on GW2, this is mmofringe.com right or did it land on mmorpg.com by accident starting to get confused by the similairity in tinfoil hat theories :)

If TSW in its current condition is what you would considered "finished" your bar is set mighty low.

No tinfoil required.
