Konami has revealed more details about their upcoming survival adventure game, Metal Gear Survive.

A report by Gamespot – who recently had a preview session with the game – detailed some information including the games overall length and gameplay style. Most of what players will see in the single-player game can be achieved in about 20 hours according to Konami, but the focus on the “survive” aspect of the title is the primary driver in the game’s design, leading to not only an open world but co-operative multiplayer.

Due to the co-op features, Metal Gear Survive needs a constant connection to the internet to play the game. Konami justifies the decision by noting that their desire for a seamless experience for players between single-player and multiplayer as the reason why. It also allows Konami to provide ongoing content post-launch for Metal Gear Survive.

Konami is also implementing microtransactions into Metal Gear Survive, much like they did with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. There are few details as to what is available for purchase, but Gamespot highlighted items named “Boost Passes”, which provide numerous benefits to a player character for a certain duration. The virtual currency is described as a simple coin system that can be earned by buying coins with real money or earning them through the game properly.
